Narcissus Project is Matthew Smith. It is his latest project incorporating influences from various genres into his own distinct style of psytrance or psychedelic trance. In an effort to expand my palette I wanted to explore other genres and avenues and bring my own tastes and styles to a different light. Narcissus was the mythical greek youth who, after seeing his own reflection in a pond, pined away in love with himself until he died and was transformed into the Narcissus flower. While most people see this as the sad fate of self absorption or egotism, it can also be looked at as a model in which we all long to truly know, love and understand ourselves. For me music is my medium for this, thusly Narcissus Project. As a child growing up I always had a love for music and an interest in the synergy between music and emotion. Later, growing up in the "rave" scene, I developed a love for electronica and discoverd the spiritual and hypnotic power of that genre, and more specifically psychedelic trance. After finishing an audio engineering internship I moved back to Los Angeles, California where I am currently working in my own studio, the DeGlo Room, to produce Narcissus Project as well as working on many other projects.
